Dr. Amir A. Khoddamzadeh is an Associate Professor of Environmental Horticulture in the Department of Earth and Environment (E&E) at Florida International University (FIU). He leads the Conservation and Sustainable Horticulture Lab, which focuses on integrating practical, science-based solutions with stakeholder needs to address challenges such as climate change, species endangerment, adaptation, and environmental pollution. Dr. Khoddamzadeh is affiliated with FIU’s Agroecology Program and the International Center for Tropical Botany within the Institute of Environment.
From 2019 to 2023, he served as the Undergraduate Program Director for E&E, overseeing seven programs and three minors. He co-directs the Global Sustainable Tourism Program and holds an Institutional Effectiveness Assessment Certificate. He actively contributes to FIU’s Curriculum Enhancement Project, working on initiatives such as setting student learning goals, reviewing and mapping curricula, and implementing enhancement strategies for the College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE). Dr. Khoddamzadeh was also a member of CASE's Carbon Footprint Reduction Committee, where he collaborated with FIU’s Office of University Sustainability and created new internship opportunities for students in his department.
Dr. Khoddamzadeh is the Chair of the Education Planning Committee for the American Society for Horticultural Science and the Chair of the Urban Horticulture Program Advisory Board for Miami-Dade County. He teaches courses such as "Sustainability in Action" and "Senior Seminar. Dr. Khoddamzadeh has secured nearly $5 million in funding from agencies like the USDA and NSF, as well as private foundations. He was honored as a 2024 USDA E. Kika De La Garza “Science Fellow” and currently serves as a Senior Fellow and Chair of the Sustainability Education Innovation Lab with the GCSE.
