Margarita Mora started her career working on land titling of Indigenous and Afro-descendent territories in Northwestern Ecuador, where she learned firsthand about the struggles of Indigenous Peoples to achieve collective land rights. Afterwards, she dedicated 14 years to devising and implementing strategies to establish more equitable relationships between conservation organizations, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities. This led her to provide guidance for the establishment of equitable initiatives in 19 countries around the world. As Managing Director of Partnerships at Nia Tero, her experience is shaping the approach to establishing equitable partnerships with Indigenous peoples that uphold their rights leading to the realization of their self-determined vision of wellbeing. Margarita is a Conservation Fellow at the Mulago Foundation, a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab, and a Heinrich Böll Stiftung alumna. LinkedIn
